Elders� appeal to Education dept

GUWAHATI, Feb 21 � The Guwahati Senior Citizens� Association (GSCA) has urged the Education Department of the Government of Assam to chalk out a proper plan to introduce effectively the teaching of Geography at the high school level and also to introduce History in the upper classes with a special paper on Assam history.

The meeting held on Saturday under the presidentship of Surendra Kumar Baruah, working president, GSCA, was addressed by Dr Harendranath Sarma, former Dean of Faculty of Science, Gauhati University (GU).

Dr Sarma, in his address, highlighted the necessity of teaching of Geography to enlighten the Assamese students about the country in particular and the world at large.

Tabiul Husain, member in charge of administration and coordination, presented the monthly report while Krishna Lahkar, Baneswar Khound, and Hem Sarma presented the sectoral reports.

Khanindra Chandra Das, Hariprasad Chaliha, Dr Devdas Bharali, Bijuli Sarma and Raseswari Hazarika took part in the discussion.
