Eighth death anniversary tribute to Bhupen Hazarika

GUWAHATI, Nov 5 - Music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika was remembered on the occasion of his eighth death anniversary today at the ongoing 21st North East Book Fair here.

On the fifth day of the mega book fest today, the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Foundation organised a special event which was attended by Bhupenda�s son Tej Hazarika and his grandson Sej Hamilton Hazarika.

Speaking on the occasion, Tej Hazarika said his father was a great patriot and his songs carried the deeper messages of patriotism and welfare of all. He also spoke about three ambitious projects taken up by the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Foundation. The topic of discussion at today�s meeting was Dr Bhupen Hazarika�s life, work and creations. Another discussion, on women in Dr Hazarika�s songs, was also organised on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the Madhya Guwahati Dr Bhupen Hazarika Smriti Rakhya Samiti observed Bhupenda�s death anniversary at ITA Machkhowa with a daylong programme.

Shankar Chakraborty welcomed the guests. Quite a few memorable numbers of the maestro were presented by students from a number of schools and institutions of the city, said a press release. Sruti Goswami of Voice India fame also performed on the occasion. Manisha Hazarika, ex-MP Ramen Deka and Padma Shri awardee Ajay Dutta among others attended the programme.

Debashish Sengupta, working president, and Jurishmita Dutta, vice president of the organisation, urged the State government to install Dr Hazarika�s statues in Delhi, Kolkata and Dhaka. The vote of thanks was offered by Rajib Das, the release added.
