SILCHAR, June 23 - Eight persons were arrested by Excise officials during a raid against country-made liquor in the city. During the raid at Teen Footi area in Ghungoor GP and also at Fakirtilla near NIT Silchar, the Excise officials destroyed over 90 litres of locally-made liquor. Also the materials which could have produced another 1400 litres of liquor were crushed during the raid.

Excise Inspector Sudip Deb who was a part of the team said that along with the operations by the enforcement agencies, community participation against such illegal activities in the society is necessary. More than 250 such cases have been registered in the past two years. But a stronger vigil by the people can help a great deal in curbing down the spread of liquor manufacturing hutments, the official maintained.
