Efforts on to ensure free, fair polls in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, April 8 - The District Election Office of Dima Hasao has deputed teams of flying squad, static surveillance teams and video surveillance teams in four different zones for overall convenience.

Each team deputed in the four zones comprise two to three civil officers/ assistants along with security personnel.

These teams are keeping a close vigil on possession or carrying of liquor, unaccounted cash in excess of Rs 50,000 as barred as per election laws, besides articles or material which may help to entice the voters.

The video surveillance teams have been on their toes to shoot all the political rallies, party meetings and gatherings in order to keep a check on violation of model code of conduct as enforced by the Election Commission of India and also for close monitoring of expenditure by the political parties.

The DEO has in the meantime issued directives to the bank officials to inform the district administration in case of any suspicious transaction in their banks.

The Excise Department too has been maintaining close coordination with the respective police station officials and also with the flying squads and static surveillance teams, besides cracking down on illegal liquor outlets.

It has been observed that apart from minor violations of the model code of conduct such as pasting of posters and erecting flags in public and government properties, no serious violation has been reported.

The Expenditure Monitoring Cell has set up their office on the ground floor of the DIPRO�s building with necessary logistics and maintaining close coordination with their teams to keep track on expenses incurred by the political parties.

The relevant team in the Expenditure Monitoring Cell along with the Assistant Expenditure Observer will report to the Returning Officer for the three autonomous districts (ST) at Diphu on April 8, 12 and 16 of this month to report with proper evidence and shadow observation register for inspection of the candidates� expenditure so far in Dima Hasao.

Moreover, the new mobile application �cVigil� introduced by the Election Commission of India to keep tab on violators of poll code during elections is gaining momentum among the socially-conscious public in Dima Hasao.

cVigil is a fast-track complaint reception and redressal system which is an innovative mobile application for citizens to report model code of conduct and expenditure violations during the election. cVigil is a user-friendly and easy to operate android application and can be downloaded from the google playstore.
