Educationist Kamal Ch Goswami dead

NAGAON, May 14 - Nonagenarian Satradhikar of Aadi Alengi Satra of Majuli, renowned educationist of the State and the founder principal of Nowgong Gopinath Deva Goswami Commerce College, Kamal Chandra Goswami passed away this morning at his son�s residence at Khanapara area in Guwahati due to old-age ailments. He was 97.

Goswami had earlier worked in Nowgong College as the founder head of the department, Geography and retired from the college as the vice-principal in 1984. Subsequently, he served Gopinath Deva Goswami Commerce College as the founder principal.

Goswami was born in 1923 at Aadi Alengi Satra at Majuli in undivided Jorhat district and later became the permanent resident of Milanpur in the town. Goswami was the father of renowned journalist and veteran Assamese short story teller, Manoj Kr Goswami. As soon as the news of his demise spread, teachers as well as the student community of both the institutions of the district conducted condolence meetings separately at their institutions where glowing tributes were paid to him. Members of various local organisations, dignitaries etc., also condoled his demise and shared their grief with the bereaved family members.
