Educational institutions in Namrup facing problems galore

By ANN Service

NAMRUP, Feb 28 - Namrup High School, set up in 1961 and provincialised in 1980, is one of the oldest co-educational institutions here. However, it has been reeling under myriad problems.

Owing to lack of funds for maintenance, the condition of the school building has turned from bad to worse. The general condition of the classrooms with leaking roofs, unhygenic urinals etc are in a deplorable state, to say the least. Further, there is no separate urinal for girls. As funds provided under RMSA cannot be utilised for maintenance and construction works, is has obviously become a matter of serious concern.

Lack of adequate drinking water facility is a serious problem faced by the school. There is one tubewell for 400 students. During the winter season, the depleting ground water level creates severe potable water crisis. As per information gathered from reliable sources, owing to lack of a boundary wall and non-appointment of night watchman, a number of valuable assets, including computers etc have been stolen.

Besides, nonavailability of Government supplied free textbooks even after completion of two months of the new academic session, has caused great inconvenience to the teachers and the taught.

Similarly, Namrup Public High School which was established in 1990 and provincialised in 2013 has been facing myriad problems too.

Leaking roofs in almost all the classrooms is certainly a cause of grave concern. The school building needs complete renovation, though lack of funds has acted as a hurdle.

Non-availability of Government supplied free textbooks has thrown the entire teaching and learning process into a state of disarray. The lack of a Science teacher has compounded the already existing problems even further.

Under the circumstances, the people of Namrup have urged the State Government to take urgent steps to ameliorate the plight to the aforementioned educational institutions at an early date.
