Education Minister discusses GU incident

GUWAHATI, May 3 � Education Minister Sarat Borkotoky has said that the matter relating to the incident in the Gauhati University campus on April 20 should be resolved in an atmosphere of goodwill and understanding by taking all the stakeholders into confidence, an official press release stated.

The minister was speaking at a high-level meeting held to discuss the situation in the aftermath of the incident.

He said the Gauhati University authorities should approach the Governor of Assam, who is the Chancellor of the university, to constitute a grievance cell in the university to ensure that such types of incidents do not recur in the future.

The meeting was convened at the instance of the Education Minister and was attended by Dr Mridul Kr Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor, Gauhati University, Dr AC Bhagawati, former vice-chancellor of Arunachal University, the Rector and the Registrar of the university and the president of the Assam College Teachers� Council. The State Commissioner and Secretary of Higher Education, also attended the meeting, the release added.
