Editor, 2 others get jail term

GUWAHATI, May 28 � The Court of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate No-I, here has convicted Dr Prafulla Mahanta, editor of Natun Samay, Mrigendra Kumar Bora, owner of the newspaper and Chandan Kumar Barua, staff reporter of the same newspaper and sentenced them to three months simple imprisonment under Sec 500 (Part II) with fine of Rs 3,000 each and simple imprisonment for another period of three months with fine of Rs 3,000 each under Sec 502 (Part II) of the IPC for their publishing defamatory statement against Dr Durlav Chamua, MLA, Nagaon in the State Assembly.
