Eden is the Lords of sub-continent: Waugh

By The Assam Tribune

NEW DELHI, Oct 19 (PTI): Despite new state-of-the-art stadiums coming up across India, Former Australia captain Steve Waugh still considers Eden Gardens in Kolkata to be the best cricket ground in the sub-continent.

It was my last trip to India, the experience of playing in Eden Gardens, playing 5 days in front of 90,000 people. It feels like it is the Lords of subcontinent. It is an amazing place for players of world cricket, I was lucky enough to get a century there. Magnificent outfield, like carpet. An amazing crowd which just loves their cricket, Waugh said at the Aaj Tak conclave Salaam Cricket.

When asked if he ever indulged in the infamous Australian sledging, Waugh, who shared the dais with fellow-country leaders Allan Border and Ricky Ponting, replied nope.

I think the definition of sledging varies. It is how you are brought up in Australia, its our nature. That is how we play our sport, we always talk. The game tests you out. There are times when some people cross the line and that is not something you want to see, said the 1999 World Cup-winning captain.

In Australian cricket side, we are always talking among ourselves. Sometimes we may be making a commentary of the guys of the opposition player. But in general its a long day and we want to keep our spirits up. There is other teams in which players talk, its not exclusive to Australia, he added.
