Economic blockade against Nagaland suspended

By Newmai news

DIMAPUR, Nov 18 - Organisations based in Karbi Anglong, Assam, have temporarily suspended the indefinite economic blockade against Nagaland from Tuesday evening.

The blockade was lifted after a joint meeting between the deputy commissioners of Dimapur district of Nagaland and Karbi Anglong district of Assam yesterday. The meeting was also attended by the Commissioner of Police of Dimapur district and other officials from Karbi Anglong.

Following the development, goods transporters have resumed service between the two States.

It may be mentioned here that various Karbi Anglong-based organisations have alleged illegal encroachments on land by the people of Nagaland. The blockade was also imposed in protest against the failure of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and the Assam Government to protect their land, according to the Karbi Students Association.

The Karbi Anglong organisations have also demanded of the Assam and Nagaland governments to resolve the boundary issue and establish proper demarcation to avoid conflicts in future.
