DHUBRI, Sept 9 - As the people of entire Dhubri district have to go through a number of different issues relating to their voter identity cards, the recent launch of online electoral roll management based on the Unified National Photo Electoral Roll database known by the name ERONet, is believed to be a game changer.
Various reports by the Dhubri Election Office stated that a large number of complaints are received regarding errors in the voter ID cards and unrecognisable photos in those cards. Many people also complain about the lengthy process involved in including their names in the electoral rolls and transfer of their names from one constituency to another.
However, the District Election Officer, Bistirna Barua during the launch of the ERONet system in the district, in presence of representatives from all the recognised political parties and mediapersons, said that it was very helpful for a district like Dhubri where voters� face the maximum problems.
Baruah explained, �The system has been designed to makie the applicant�s entry in the electoral roll hassle-free and error-free. Through ERONet, the processing of forms will be carried out in a more regular and simpler way and it will be monitored centrally in an organised and systematic way�.
It was also informed that through the National Voters� Service Portal (NVSP) htp://nvsp.in, the inclusion, modification, deletion or transposition in the electoral rolls is done by filling and submitting online forms that will be processed in the ERONet.
He also said that, the Block Level Officers (BLO) would later verify these forms by making door-to-door visits and will take undertakings from the applicants above 25 years of age.
�This process of doing most of the things online will be really helpful for the voters of Dhubri as the entire process will be much more faster and error free,� said the election officer. He also added that as the district is about to get a very large number of such cases online, particularly for the modification of names, special arrangements will be done at Dhubri�s election office to handle the load.
