ECI officials review poll preparedness in Assam's border district

Nilambazar, March 24: Senior officials of the Election Commission of India visited to the border district Karimganj on Tuesday to observe the preparations for the Assembly elections. The team led by Senior Principal Secretary Election Commission of India NN Butolia, included Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Dharmendra Sharma, Director Pankaj Srivastava, Assam Chief Election Commissioner Nitin Khade and State Police IGP (Law and Order) cum Nodal Officer Deepak Kumar Kodia.

On Tuesday morning, the helicopters of the Election Commission high officials landed at Bhatgram, adjacent to the new Karimganj railway station. Later they have attended an urgent meeting held at the additional Circuit House with General Observers of five assembly constituencies in Karimganj - Parimal Singh, Rajiv Sharma, Kare Gawra and two Accounts Observers Sujit Kumar Pi and Dew Kumar, Police Observer D H Parmar.

The meeting was attended by Deputy commissioner Ambamuthan MP, Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar, Election Officer Jagriti Kalwar and other officials. In the meeting the top officials of the Election Commission reviewed the security arrangements at the booth centers of the five assembly constituencies in the district and various steps taken by the administration and police to ensure free and fair elections in the district.

The high official team has visited the strong room and counting centers of Karimganj College. The officials of the Election Commission observed about six model booth centers in Kanishail area under north Karimganj constituency. These are respectively - Kanishail LP School, Kanishail Girls high school and Kanishail ME Madrassa.
