EC teams seize Rs 6.28 cr

ITANAGAR, April 9 - Unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 6,28,07,850 has been seized in Arunachal Pradesh in the run-up to the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, slated for April 11.

�Till Monday, the unaccounted cash seized by the EC-appointed teams across the State stood at Rs 6,28,07,850 � more than that of the money recovered during the 2014 elections,� said Arunachal Pradesh Additional Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kanki Darang while talking to reporters at the Nirvachan Bhavan here.

Six cases, involving a total amount of Rs 2,46,30,000, have been referred to the Income Tax Department for further investigation. During the 2014 elections, the total cash seized by FST, SST and police was Rs 4.38 crore, added Darang.

The Additional CEO also stated that altogether 19,623 out of 32,400 licensed guns have been deposited to the police stations as per guidelines issued by the poll body, while adding that 608 guns were impounded during the period. Moreover, a huge quantity of illicit liquor and other items were also confiscated in the State after the model code of conduct came into force on March 10.
