EC team to visit State on Monday

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, March 14 - A high-level team of the Election Commission (EC) led by a deputy election commissioner will visit Assam on Monday, sources in the poll panel said.

The EC delegation will also tour Tripura, Manipur and West Bengal next week to assess poll preparedness, official sources said on Thursday.

The decision to send Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain comes a day after the BJP urged the poll watchdog to declare West Bengal a super sensitive state. The BJP had on Wednesday also demanded that central forces be deployed at all polling stations in the state.

Jain will lead the team to West Bengal on Saturday, Tripura on Sunday, Assam on Monday and Manipur on Tuesday to assess election preparedness in the four states. While Lok Sabha elections will be held in three phases in Assam, it will be a two-phase affair in Tripura and Manipur.
