GUWAHATI, April 3 - In the run-up to the Assembly polls, the Election Commission has stepped up drive to seize illegal cash, arms and liquor.
Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, Vijayendra said today that so far cash worth Rs 12 crore has been seized across the State. In addition, 7,85,633 litres of liquor have also been seized.
Officials have also seized 166 illegal arms and 538 rounds of illegal ammunition. A total of 26,067 pieces of licensed arms have also been deposited with the authority.
The Commission has also found 21,388 cases of violation of the Model Code of Conduct and action has been taken in 21,163 cases. Notices have been issued in 230 cases and 83 FIRs have been lodged, he said.
