Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics Forum from today

By CITY CORRESPONDENT

GUWAHATI, Nov 30 - The Balipara Foundations 8th Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics Forum 2020 and the first virtual edition of Ecology is Economy will be held from December 1 to 5 across 23 countries with participation of 110 speakers.

Global and local leaders will participate in the conclave including chief ministers of the north-eastern states, Amitabh Kant of NITI-Aayog, Lord Nicholas Stern of LSE, Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak from Environmental Agency Abu Dhabi, Dr Shashi Tharoor and others.

The Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics 2020 Forum will strive to create a redefined paradigm with ecology at the centre-stage by putting people and the planet first.

As the global economy is interconnected, the ecological and financial crisis in one country affects markets not just in another but all around the world. Today the world is intertwined than it was ever before and requires joint and coordinated action at all levels unseen before this pandemic, the foundation stated in a press statement here.

For structural transformations to happen, coordinated leadership and collaborations across borders to put green recovery at the heart of actions is the need of the hour, leading towards creation of sustainable jobs, green investments and restoring the economic power of households and businesses, the statement added.

The forum will end with the virtual Balipara Foundation Awards on December 5, which will recognise 13 earth heroes of the Eastern Himalayas and their indomitable achievements, as they continue to live in harmony with Nature and adopt sustainable methods for greening the economy.

As part of the Rabindranath Barthakur Memorial Lecture, renowned historian and author Rudrangshu Mukherjee will deliver the key leadership address - Ecology is Economy, from a historian perspective.
