Easter celebrated in NE

SHILLONG, April 5 � Meghalaya Governor KN Tripathy has greeted the people on the occasion of Easter, stating the festival is of hope and resurrection of Christ.

During the day, Churches of different denominations held special services and people met each other and greeted them on the occasion.

PTI adds from Kohima: Marking the victory of Jesus Christ over death for the redemption of mankind from sin, Nagaland celebrated Easter by holding special mass for healing, peace and reconciliation within the Naga society.

Extending greetings to the Christian community of the State, Governor PB Acharya said, �Easter is a significant event upon which faith is based... The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.�

Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang also greeted the people on the occasion.

The Kohima Baptist Pastors� Fellowship held Easter sunrise service at the historic World War-II Cemetery with thousands of Christians offering thanksgiving prayer.

Aizawl: Easter Sunday, the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion to redeem the world, was celebrated all over the Christian-dominated State of Mizoram today with religious solemnity and gaiety by different church denominations.

Churches like the Presbyterian Church, Baptist Church and United Pentecostal Church held praise and worship programme throughout the day and many local churches organised community feasts to celebrate the resurrection of Christ.
