Easter celebrated in Nagaland, Mizoram

KOHIMA, April 16 - Christians in Nagaland and Mizoram today celebrated Easter with prayers and services.

Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu extended Easter greetings to the people of the State.

Believers, in the State capital Kohima, converged at the historic World War-II cemetery for a special sunrise service under the aegis of Kohima Baptist Pastors� Fellowship on the theme,�He is risen�.

In his message during the service, former general secretary of Nagaland Baptist Church Council, Rev Zhabu Terhuja said, �Jesus instituted a new order of social relationship through his crucifixion while commanding us to love one another as he loves us�.

Believers also took part in mass community feasts.

In Aizawl, band parties of different corps of the Salvation Army today woke the Aizawl populace by playing the hymn �He�s arisen� to mark the beginning of Easter Sunday.

People across Mizoram celebrated Easter Sunday, signifying Christ�s victory over death after his crucifixion to redeem the world. Sunrise services were organised by the youth wings of both Presbyterian and Baptist Churches in their respective local churches.

Special prayers and worship were also held with Catholic church members breaking their fast after Good Friday.

Preachers of different churches preached sermons on the resurrection of Christ. � PTI
