Earthquake measuring 6.4 rocks NE

GUWAHATI, Feb 4 � A earthquake of the magnitude of 6.4 in the Richter scale, shook the NE region around 7-24 pm today. However, no report of damage caused by the tremor has been received from any part of the region till the filing of this report.

According to sources in the Shillong-based Central Seismological Observatory (CSO), the epicentre of the earthquake was found to be at latitude 24.8 degree North and longitude 94.5 degree East on the Manipur-Myanmar border. The tremor lasted for about 20 seconds, said the (CSO) sources.

Though no quake-related damage has been reported from any part of the region, reports of panicky people running helter and skelter at the time of the tremor have been received from many parts of the city as well as the State.
