Earth Craft launches yarn bank

GUWAHATI, Oct 16 - Guwahati-based Earth Craft has set up a yarn bank of naturally dyed yarns on Thursday to take forward Puberun Sarmah�s endeavour to create a natural dye value chain in the State.

With the experience of more than 10 years in the field of natural dye value chain, Puberun Sarmah has been working towards the revival of traditional dyeing practices and extensively using dye stuff locally available in the Northeast, stated a press release.

The yarn bank will showcase 18 shades of naturally dyed yarns which will help handloom enthusiasts, designers, weavers, and textile entrepreneurs. There has been a huge demand for naturally dyed yarns but for the lack of proper knowledge and know-how of dyeing there has always been a dearth of colour fast yarns of varied shades.

Initially, the yarn bank will provide dyed eri silk yarns and in future it will also have other natural fiber yarns as cotton, mulberry, linen, etc. Earth Craft will also have the provision of customised dyeing of yarns on order.
