By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, Oct 10 - The first sitting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee called DISHA, with newly-elected Mangaldai MP Dilip Saikia in the chair, has mooted for early construction work of the Mangaldai bypass. Saikia, following review of the progress of the project, advocated for necessary arrangements for foundation laying of the project in March 2020.

Earlier, officials representing the PWD NH Mangaldai subdivision, reportedly informed the house that the proposal for alignment is already on the floor of the Road Transport Ministry for necessary approval.

The early approval of the alignment proposal will pave the way for preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) followed by land acquisition process by the district administration.

The committee, which is considered to be the most powerful district-level decision making body for development, in its first sitting on Thursday last, also observed the lack of necessary transparency in implementation of rural road projects under PWD Rural Roads Mangaldai Division and directed the Executive Engineer concerned for erection of project information board with a brief project detail including the mobile number of the respective contractors.

The meeting attended by both the MLAs of ruling BJP, namely Gurujyoti Das and Binanda Kumar Saikia, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Dass, CEO, Darrang Zila Parishad Tej Prasad Bhusal besides all district heads of the government departments also reviewed the progress of some other ongoing projects like PMAY, both for rural and urban.

It may be mentioned here that a group of local lawyers of Mangaldai Bar recently moved Member of Parliament Saikia for his intervention for timely progress of the proposed bypass project in outskirts of Mangaldai township, a long-pending demand of the local people, the report of which was already published in The Assam Tribune.
