E-catering services introduced in trains

GUWAHATI, Feb 11 � In conforming to the continuous endeavor to provide wider options to the travelling railway passenger for on-board meals, a pilot project about for board e-catering has been introduced recently, an NF Rly official said.

The aim of the project is to enable the passengers to order food on website as well as through calls and SMS. In the first phase the facility has been made available in 14 pairs of trains in the Delhi-Amritsar and Delhi-Jammu Tawi sectors. In the second phase this facility is being added in another 25 pairs of trains throughout India. The tie-up for supply of food on these select pairs of trains has been done by IRCTC with food plazas and fast food units.

In this system, passengers with confirmed reservation tickets may book meals either online or through call centre or SMS. The passenger with waitlisted tickets can book through calls or SMS only. At present two NF Railway trains have been covered- the 12517 / 12518 Guwahati � Kolkata Garib Rath Express and 15707 / 15708 Katihar � Amritsar Express.
