Dynamo rally to hold Town Club

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 2 It was yet another drawn match in the RG Baruah GSA Super Division Football League where Gauhati Town Club (GTC) and Dynamo Club shared points playing a 1-1 draw.

In a mediocre encounter at the Nehru Stadium here today, Town went ahead in the 25th minute through Nigerian striker Festus Onoriode Johnayah while Dynamo restored parity in the 53rd minute when striker Oneybi Nandos Ogbonna beat Town custodian Shyam Sunder Reddy in a point blank situation.

Both the teams were poor in the upfront and midfield. Midfielders of both the teams failed to control the ball and feed their attackers. But the tricky Dynamo medio Akil Boroi tried to set the ball for his strikers with some defence splitting passes. But his efforts went in vain as his teammates failed to anticipate the passes. Dynamo strikers Abraham Goodluck was ineffective and he was never allowed to move freely in the Town danger zone.

Town strikers Johnayah, Shyam Murah and John Sonowal managed to get their act together with their medios occasionally and made the Dynamo defenders run for their money. John once hit the Dynamo upright in the early part of the match.

Johnayah made a good-looking pass with Khunjeng Kamei and gently pushed the ball in the Dynamo goal keeping all the opponent defenders with his speed (1-0).

After the break, another Nigerian striker Onyebi Nandos restored parity with a similar goal (1-1). In the remaining part of the match, both the teams adopted defensive tactics and managed to keep their fort intact.

A Division tie: The A Division League match between Jewel Star Club and Chandmari Sports Club ended in a goal less draw as despite some laudable efforts no team could break the deadlock.
