By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Dec 27 - Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein today visited a drug de-addiction-cum-rehabilitation centre at Lathao, about 17 kms from district headquarters Namsai, stated a press release.

He was accompanied by Commissioner of Planning and Investment PS Lokhande.

The Deputy Chief Minister and the Commissioner interacted with the inmates of the centre. Mein advised them to strongly resolve to quit drug addiction and properly undergo the treatment administered at the centre in order to free themselves from the clutches of drug abuse forever. Lokhande also enquired about the functioning of the centre and its issues and needs. He said that the rehabilitation aspect must also be looked into in the right earnest.

Indrajit Tingwa, secretary of Arunachal Pali Vidyapith Society, briefed the visiting dignitaries regarding the need of decentralisation of procurement of medicines and other inventories besides the need for increasing the diet costs for the patients.

Arunachal Pali Vidyapith Society is the partner NGO implementing drug de-addiction initiatives in the district under PPP mode funded under the CM Nasha Mukti Yojana through the Arunachal Pradesh Drug De-addiction Society, Directorate of Health Services of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Dy CM was requested to give necessary directions for construction of a security wall and improvement of water supply to the centre.

Mein said that since the State did not have any rehabilitation facility, the centre at Lathao should be turned into a state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre which would cater to the needs of the eastern belt of the State besides detoxification of drug users. He asked the Commissioner to take necessary steps in this regard.

Lokhande, while acknowledging the proposal of the DCM, assured to take up the matter and expressed his opinion in favour of decentralising the procurement process.

Namsai DC RK Sharma, SP Dr DW Thongon and other heads of departments were also part of the entourage.
