Dutta reviews Sonitpur scene

TEZPUR, July 30 - State Water Resources Minister Ranjit Dutta on Friday took stock of the flood situation in Sonitpur district. The minister held a review meeting with the officials of every department and public representatives at the DC�s conference hall here. DC Laya Madduri was also present on the occasion.

According to the official report, a total of 112 villages and 1 lakh people have been affected by the flood in Sonitpur district. Though the flood situation has been improving gradually, there has been no let-up in some areas.

The minister examined the reports regarding the seven flood relief camps and distribution of 1,348.85 quintals of rice, 263.25 quintals of dal, 52.69 quintals of salt among the affected people. Dutta urged the officials to deal with the flood situation effectively and remain alert round the clock. He also asked the officials of the Health, PHE, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Water Resources departments to provide all possible help to the flood-hit people. He also instructed the Agriculture Department to arrange paddy seedlings for the affected farmers, besides asking the Health Department to provide health services to the affected people round the clock.

Dutta also urged the officials to accord priority to the quick supply of halogen lights, baby food and fodder. The MLAs of Tezpur, Sootea and Barchala � Brindaban Goswami, Padma Hazarika and Ganesh Limbu respectively � who were also present in the meeting, urged the officials to keep a close watch on the issue.

Meanwhile, DC Laya Madduri stated that foodgrains and fodder are available for distribution.
