Dutta hails NE English writers

GUWAHATI, March 21 - Noted writer Arup Kumar Dutta on Sunday applauded the writers of North East contributing in the English language observing that such writings have projected the dilemma as well as aspirations of the region before a global audience.

Speaking at the release function of The Plum Tree, a collection of short stories in English by Dr Deepika Phukan, Dutta said that it was a welcome sign more writers of the region were contributing in the English language which has made a positive impact in literature.

Referring to The Plum Tree, Dutta praised the subtle humour that is all pervading in the book, the directness and simplicity of the style of writing and the thematic aspect. He said that the stories based on common experience and perception, and which also have an autobiographical touch will provide sheer delight to the readers.

On the other hand, releasing the book, litterateur Atulananda Goswami said that the genre of short story writing has conquered the world of literature because of its commitment to life. Goswami further said that the genre of short story writing has come of age in the State and he appreciated the efforts of the writers of the region writing in English observing that this language gave a bigger platform to the writers.
