Dusty wind makes city life miserable

GUWAHATI, Feb 18 � Strong dust-raising wind harassed the Guwahatians today signaling the advent of the westerly wind, known in this part of the globe as pachowa botah.

Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) sources here said that during the day time today, the strong dust-raising westerly wind prevailed over the NE region, blowing at a speed of 10 km to 15 km per hour.

The dust raising westerly wind is feared to blow in the city tomorrow also during the day time, said the sources.

On the possibility of rains, RMC sources said that rain was expected to occur over one or two places of Arunachal Pradesh, while weather would remain mainly dry over the rest of the region during the next 24 hours.

Almost all the meteorological stations of the region today recorded rise in their maximum and minimum temperatures.

In Assam, Guwahati today recorded an above two degree Celsius maximum temperature (28.6 degree Celsius) and an above three degree Celsius minimum temperature (15 degree Celsius).

Dibrugarh today recorded an above four degree Celsius maximum temperature and an above one degree Celsius minimum temperature, while Tezpur recorded an above three degree Celsius maximum temperature and an above one degree Celsius minimum temperature.

Though their maximum temperatures remained normal at 27.5 degree Celsius and 25.9 degree Celsius respectively, Silchar recorded an above three degree Celsius minimum temperature (16.5 degree Celsius) and Dhubri recorded an above two degree Celsius minimum temperature (15.6 degree Celsius), said the sources.
