�Durga Puja unites people�

GUWAHATI, Oct 5 - Along with the rest of the city, the Durga Puja celebrations began at the Sixmile Lakshmi Mandir today.

On the occasion, a public meeting was held under the presidentship of senior journalist DN Chakravartty where a souvenir was also released.

Referring to the origin, glory and significance of Durga Puja, Chakravartty described it as one of the strongest factors in uniting a large number of people from different parts of the country.

Educationist Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury also spoke on the occasion. He eulogised the endeavour of the local people in bringing out a brilliantly-edited souvenir for the last seven years and observing the silver jubilee of the puja.

Another function was held at the Durga Puja mandap of Brihattar Dwaraka Nagar where educationist Dr Sunil Pawan Baruah stressed the need for reducing the glitz and glamour of the celebrations and focusing more on the auspiciousness of the occasion.
