GUWAHATI, Oct 6 � With the colourful Autumn Fest just round the corner, the puja committees in the capital city are on their toes to complete the arrangements on time. A wide range of themes with many special attractions will greet the pandal hoppers this time.
The Accounts Colony Durga Puja Committee will showcase the Assamese culture with the puja pandal made of bamboo and ethnic products. The puja committee has gone for eco-friendly idol and will organise quiz competition and cultural programme all with the objective to deliver relevant social messages.
The Maligaon Kalibari Durgotsav Samity which was established in the year 1951 has chosen the Palligram village theme. The pandal is made of clay, mud, straw, bamboo and jute The idol has been made without any dais and is completely eco- friendly. The committee has lined up many programmes, including art competition and cultural shows to entertain the citizens.
A must visit for the pandal hoppers is the puja pandal of Nambari Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee. The committee has used recycled products. The pandal is made of oil pots and plywood. Around 4000 pots have been used.
It needs to be mentioned here that a number of puja committees have gone for eco-friendly idol and themes showcasing the tourism potential of the region, responding to the appeal of the Eco Tourism Society of North East.
The Kalapahar Durga Puja Committee established in the year 1958 will give a glimpse into rural Assam in their venue. The village atmosphere will be replicated with cottage, cart wheel, dheki, nangal etc. The idol is eco-friendly and the cultural programmes lined up by the committee will showcase local talents.
The Kahilipara Durga Puja Mandap Committee is replicating a Japanese Buddhist Temple and their idol is eco-friendly. A special programme on cancer awareness, fire awareness and prevention has been lined up by the committee.
Established in the year 1966, the Bishnupur Bimala Nagar Durga Puja Committee has chosen Pashupatinath Temple of Nepal (Mongolian Structure) as its theme. The idol has been made by using clay and dry grass. The special attraction of this puja will be ethnic culture and homely atmosphere.
The theme of the Bishnupur Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee is an old temple structure and the attraction will be a huge Ganesh idol.
On the other hand, a palace and homely atmosphere will greet the citizens on visiting the Tokobari Barowari Durga Puja Committee.
The East Panbazar Puja Committee established in 1972 will entertain pandal hoppers with a theme revolving around traditional Assamese products. The idol is in Bengal style and the committee has involved people from all quarters of the locality.
The pandal of the Harijan Development Committee established in 1961 will resemble a palace.
The Santipur Sluice Gate Sarbajanin Durga Puja Sommittee that has twice won the Best Eco Friendly Durga Puja Award is depicting a South Indian temple made with eco-friendly materials like bamboo and straw. The Sommittee is using non-polluting materials.
The Nayantara Club established in 1980 will display various types of towels (gamosas) from different parts of India. The special attraction will be the lighting.
The theme for Geetanagar Sarbajonin Durga Puja Samittee established in 1978 is caves. The pandal is made of bamboo and coconut ropes.
