GUWAHATI, Sept 30 � Durga Puja � one of the most elaborately and extravagantly celebrated festivals in India � got under way across the State with the ceremonial installation of the Goddess at the altar on Maha Sasthi. The much awaited autumn festival spread cheer amongst all section of the population as they braced up for pandal hopping as well as for participating in all the rituals related to the festival.
A festive atmosphere was noticed at all the puja pandals as the Goddess and her entourage was installed by observing all the related rituals. Many people visited the pandals today to bow before the Goddess and seek her blessings.
The Durga Puja that epitomizes the victory of good over evil will be celebrated with all the fanfare that will also include cultural programmes and different competitions. Thousands of beautifully decorated pandals across the length and breadth of the State sending out relevant social messages are ready to welcome the citizens.
Meanwhile, the police have made elaborate security arrangements to make the celebrations a smooth affair.
