Durga Puja ends peacefully in Cachar

SILCHAR, Oct 19: Amidst excellent weather conditions, Durga Puja celebrations across Cachar district came to a close on Friday.

After the bustling three-day celebrations, the immersion process towards Sadarghat, the central location for immersion of the idols began as early as 8 am.

The idols worshipped at the residence of the Kalwar family of Sadarghat was the first to be immersed in river Barak.

The Cachar district administration and Cachar police along with the Silchar Municipal Board maintained strict vigil at the immersion venue and necessary security measures including deployment of dog squad to detect explosives at the ghat were also carried out.

A multitude of revellers was witnessed across all major Puja pandals in Cachar district on all three days of the celebration.

Besides Udharbondh, which has become the 'go to' place for people during Durga Puja, other pandals including Appolo Club's theme on promoting education, bouquet of colour splashes at the Bilpar Durgabari puja pandal, Subhash Nagar College Road puja pandal, aarati done by women at the Mahila Samiti's Puja at Panchayet road drew great crowd. The puja by the Mahila Samiti is the only "all women" Puja of Silchar.

In many Puja pandals, Kumari Puja was held with reverence and fervour. The rituals of worshipping the kumaris on Maha Ashtami was held at the Dakshin Bilpar Puja pandal and also at the puja organised by the Cachar District Administration. Also, the Sandhi Puja was a major attraction for people amidst the celebration.
