Duo accused of graft acquitted

GUWAHATI, Nov 25 - The Court of Special Judge, Assam, today acquitted Rajen Saikia, along with Bimal Bhowmik, both employees of the office of the Drug Inspector, who were booked under corruption charges.

The duo was arrested on charges of accepting bribe by the anti-corruption wing of the Assam Police in August 2016 from the Bongaigaon office of the Drug Inspector.

The Court, after hearing the defence counsels, which included advocate BK Mahajan, Nayan Das and Pranab Kumar Das, acquitted the duo observing that the culpability of the accused could not be established by the prosecution beyond reasonable doubt.

Saikia was the senior drug inspector at Bongaigaon when he was arrested. The State of Assam was represented by Manash Haloi in the court.
