DERGAON, March 15 � �After 75 years of existence, Assamese cinema has not yet been given its due status. At present piracy has killing the prospect of Assamese cinema and so it must be stopped. And the future of Assamese cinema will depend on the audience. The audience must go to the hall to enjoy a cinema.� This was stated by noted actor of Assamese cinema Jatin Bora delivering his speech as the chief guest in the open meeting of opening programme of platinum jubilee celebration by Assam Sahitya Sabha at Bordihingia Natyamandir Kamargaon on March 10.
The actor also urged the gathering to cultivate interest in Assamese cinema. The programme was held under the aegis of Asam Sahitya Sabha in association with Golaghat Dist. Sahitya Sabha and Kamargaon Sahitya Sabha at Panidihingia.
The open meeting was held with Rong Bong Terang, the president of Assam Sahitya Sabha in the chair.
Delivering his speech, Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, general secretary of Assam Sahitya Sabha, opined that Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla could bear a lot of difficulties in production the Joymoti 75 years ago when no infrastructure was there. He also urged the artistes and literatuers to become life member of the sabha for which they will get a Life Insurance Scheme for medical treatment. He also revealed that the closing ceremony will be held on March 10, 2011 at Kamargaon.
The meeting was also addressed by Parasu Tamuly, Dr Kutubuddin Ahmed, Mahendra Nath Hazarika, Bhabani Prasad Adhikari and Dipak Sarmah, etc.
Debendra Nath Bhuyan, president of the reception committee delivered his welcome address.
Earlier Rong Bong Terrang unveiled the statue of Aideu Handique, the first woman cinema artiste installed at Aideu Handique Museum premises at Panidihingia, the native place of the artiste.
Earlier the programme was started with hoisting of the sabha flag by Parasu Tamuly followed by smriti tarpan initiated by Debendra Nath Bhuyan.
The cultural procession was flagged off by Dipak Sarmah, OC Kamargaon PS.
