DU students stir against fee hike

DIBRUGARH, JULY 16 � A day after Dibrugarh University authorities justified hike in fees of various courses, the Post Graduate Students� Union of Dibrugarh University (DU) in collaboration with the district unit of All Assam Students� Union (AASU) today stormed the office of the Vice Chancellor, seeking immediate rollback of the fee hike.

The students staged a two-hour demonstration in front of the office of the Vice Chancellor (VC), raising anti administration slogans and demanding reduction of admission and tuition fees.

It needs mention here that the fees of various courses in the university have been hiked steeply. The students� delegation met Vice Chancellor Dr Kandarpa Kumar Deka and requested him to concede to their demands but the Vice Chancellor was not relenting. Deka told the students that there would be no rollback .

Arindam Buragohain, general secretary, Post Graduate Students� Union (PGSU) of the university informed that the students would not keep silent on the issue till the authorities give in. �Fee hike is real injustice for the poor students who cannot afford to pursue higher studies for lack of money,� he said.
