DU Prof drowns in Arabian Sea

DIBRUGARH, Jan 9 � Amarjyoti Kashyap, Assistant Professor of the Centre for Social Work Studies, Dibrugarh University reportedly drowned in the Arabian Sea while bathing in a beach near Diu during an outing yesterday following completion of their study tour in a model village in Gujarat.

Kashyap along with Assistant Professor Ansai Basumatary of the Centre had taken some 16 students of MSW of the Centre to Gujarat for an educational tour. After their field study was over, the 18-member group, of which 10 were girl students, were out on a sight-seeing tour, the faculty members of the Centre informed.

Kashyap�s body was recovered by local divers and rushed to a nearby hospital in an ambulance, but the doctors reportedly declared him �brought dead�. Dr Jayanta Borbora, the Director of the Centre for Social Work Studies, Debraj Sharma, the Law Officer of Dibrugarh University and Kaustav Kashyap, younger brother of the deceased today left for Diu following the incident.

Amarjyoti Kashyap (38) hailed from Jorhat. He leaves behind his wife and a minor son. He was under contractual service.
