DIBRUGARH, July 1 - Some forty two colleges in the districts of Dhemaji and Lakhimpur have been identified as �fake colleges� by Dibrugarh University (DU). The identified colleges have been admitting
students without the permission of the university, Dr Rupam Saikia, Director of College Development Council, Dibrugarh University said.

The university has initiated action against the colleges for gross violations of the statutory norms. In a notice (DU/DCDC/16 /Notice/9364 ) dated 23-06-2016 issued by Dibrugarh University, the principals and permitted colleges under Dibrugarh University have been informed not to entertain any request from such colleges for maintaining the sanctity of the affiliating system.
