DU hosts East Zone Vice Chancellors� Meet

DIBRUGARH, Dec 3 - The Association of Indian Universities (AIU), an apex body of higher education in the country, is holding its two-day �AIU East Zone Vice Chancellors� Meet from tomorrow. The meet is being hosted by Dibrugarh University here.

Altogether 34 Vice Chancellors from various universities of the East Zone, comprising Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and all the northeastern States, will be participating in the meeting, which will be presided over by Professor Furqan Qamar, secretary general, AIU. Sarat Borkotoky, Minister for Education, Pension and Public Grievances, will attend the event as the chief guest and inaugurate the meet.

The theme of the meet is �Higher Education towards Skill Development and Entrepreneurship�.

A special issue of the University News, a weekly journal of higher education will be brought out by the AIU.

AIU joint secretaries Sampson David and Dr Veena Bhalla are the AIU coordinators of the meet, while Dr S Rama Devi Pani, Editor, University News, is the academic coordinator of the meet.

This meet has stupendous significance as almost of the Vice Chancellors and professionals are expected to participate in the deliberations. Some measures to be adopted by Government, Chancellors, Vice Chancellors and other university functionaries will be drawn from the deliberations of the meet.

The meeting will specifically lay emphasis on the relevance of present form of degrees offered by universities as also issues related to higher education towards skill development and entrepreneurship, Professor Furqan Qamar said.
