DU golden jubilee celebration from July 1

DIBRUGARH, June 19 � Dibrugarh University, one of the premier institutes of eastern India, is going to celebrate its golden jubilee with a yearlong programme, scheduled to begin from July 1 this year.

According to the tentative schedule, the inaugural function on July 1 will be attended by Prof H Devaraj, Vice Chairman of the University Grants Commission. Several academicians and noted personalities from different disciplines have also been invited.

As a part of the inaugural function, a bust of Dr Lakshmi Prasad Dutt, founder-rector of the university will be unveiled. The bust has been designed by noted sculptor Biren Singha. Moreover, eight books published by the Dibrugarh University Publication Division will be released to commemorate the occasion.

A reception committee has been formed with Prof Alak Kumar Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University, as the president and Prof MN Dutta, registrar, as the secretary. The organizers have sought the support and cooperation from all sections of the society, including former teachers and students of the institute to make this event a success.
