HAFLONG, Dec 25 - The four-day 46th Dimasa Students� Union (DSU) general conference held from December 22 to 25 at Jalai Khurang Club playground at Kalachand near Maibang unanimously resolved to revive the autonomous State movement with renewed momentum as well as press for implementation of Article 244(A) of the 6th Schedule of the Indian Constitution in the collective interest of the hills people.
The conference resolved that the DSU will move the concerned authority for setting up of HSLC examination centre wherever required subject to fulfilment of criteria as per SEBA guidelines for uplift of the students� community of the district.
It also decided that workshops and awareness campaigns shall be organised by the DSU in all the Dimasa-inhabited areas on the issue of expansion of youth leadership for the Dimasa society.
Additionally, the DSU in association with other social organisations will hold awareness programmes against alcoholism among Dimasa tribals and strengthening of socio-economic policies related to the Dimasa tribe.
Moreover, the DSU resolved to stand by the society on national issues as and when the need arose in the near future.
The conference was held under the tutelage of Thalendra Dibragede, Pramith Sengyung and Punush Nunisa as members of the presidium committee, besides Sidut Naiding, Amith Nunisa and Tunush Kemprai as steering committee members, and Rupjal Bathari, Debraj Jidung and Subrojit Bathari as representatives of the recording committee respectively.
Altogether, 650 delegates attended the debate and discussions at the three delegates� sessions. Over and above the aforementioned office-bearers, Dr Ronald Bathari (Medical and Health Officer of Haflong Civil Hospital, Ramesh Thaosen, Huni Thaosen, Assistant Professor of Gauhati University, Department of Anthropology and Dr Dhruba Hojai, retired Director of Medical and Health Services, Assam also attended as appointed speakers on topics as diverse as �Youth Leadership�, �Sixth Schedule Woman Empowerment� and the �Article 244 (A)� respectively.
On the concluding day, a spectacular cultural programme was organised wherein traditional dance, fashion show and modern dance were performed by delegates from 12 branches of DSU.
Newly-elected president Sidut Naiding and general secretary Pramith Sengyung of DSU while appreciating the people of Kalachand in particular for their efforts to make the event a success, vowed to work for the general people of Dima Hasao.
