GHOGRAPAR, Feb 15 � The greater Ghograpar circle in Nalbari district is reeling under a dry spell. This has caused food crisis among the people. Most of the victims live below the poverty line and they have no means to purchase seeds for rabi crops.
Though they were assured of supply of seeds of vegetables, rabi crops and other required materials by the Agricultural Department, there has been no response from the office or the government.
Besides, distribution of diesel for water pumps belonging to the farmers is quite negligible. It covers only five per cent of the total farmers.
Farmers are now in urgent need of rabi crop seeds, the cultivation of which is more profitable. They had to get the seeds of rabi crops, within November last year as the season of cultivation is already going to be over.
On the other hand the departmental authority has not allegedly taken the matter seriously.
Mahashivaratri: The Maha Shivaratri Puja was observed with a two-day programme from January 12 by the people of Ponar Kaunia, Sathamo, Ghowarkuchi and its nearby areas on the premises of Shiva Mandir in front of the Barigog Banbhag Development Block, Ghograpar.
A large number of devotees joined the Shivaratri Puja-Mandap and offered prayers for peace. Nam kirtan was also organised by the samity on January 13. This was stated in a press release.
Teachers� grievance: The BSc teachers of various ME/MEM schools in Nalbari district, which were provincialised in 1991 by the then Chief Minister late Hiteswar Saikia Government have vented their ire over non-upgrading of their posts as science graduate posts. The working teachers stated in a release that the government has turned a deaf ear in this regard and urged immediate sanction for the science teachers� posts.
The teachers stated that although the government had provincialised the ME/MEM schools in 1991, the BSc teachers are still deprived of their science graduate scale. The teachers have urged the government to sanction the science teachers posts so that the working teachers would be able to draw the science graduate scale like the other science teachers.
