GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - Amidst a scare over the new coronavirus strain, Assam today began a two-day dry run for COVID-19 vaccination to test the planned operations for the coronavirus inoculation drive.

Along with Sonitpur and Nalbari, the dry-run is being also carried out in two districts each of Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.

The personnel were trained and briefed about the exercise today. The actual drill will be conducted tomorrow, the Sonitpur DC office said. In both the districts, the drill will be conducted in five different settings.

The end-to-end dry run will focus on the management of any possible adverse events following immunization, cold storage and logistics and crowd management. Infection control practices will be followed at the sites.

Meanwhile, two more persons returning from the UK, where a new virus strain has been detected, have tested positive for the virus. The asymptomatic couple, hailing from Golaghat, has been shifted to Jorhat Medical College & Hospital. JMCH will send their samples to NIV, Pune to ascertain if it is the new strain.

They had tested negative in rapid antigen test at Delhi airport on December 13. Even at LGBI airport they had tested negative in RAT on December 26. But the RT-PCR test results were positive, a health official said, adding, they are in isolation. People in the vicinity of their residence are being tested.
