Drugs seized in Manipur, one held

IMPHAL, April 3 - Assam Rifles personnel apprehended an alleged drug peddler with WY (World is Yours) tablets worth Rs 16 crore in Tengnoupal district on Monday.

The peddler identified as one Md Ilias Khan (18) of Mayang in Imphal West district, along with the recovered drugs, were handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Imphal.

In a press release issued last night, the PRO of Assam Rifles (South) said the recovery was made from a passenger bus (MN 01-1394) at the permanent vehicle check post at Khudengthabi, about 100 km south of Imphal, along the Imphal-Moreh road around 4.30 pm.

The release said the WY Tablets were found in a modified concealed compartment of the bus, adding that the seizure is the largest recovery of a drug consignment so far.

The recovered WY tablets weigh around 38.520 kg and number approximately 3,20,000. They were found in 1,600 packets (each packet contains around 200 tablets).

Since 2017, 12 Assam Rifles have recovered contraband items worth approximately around Rs 70 crore.
