Drug abuse is a social problem: Dr LR Bishnoi

DERGAON, Sept 2 - Drug abuse is not a personal, but a social problem. It ruins not only the family, but also the society. So we must all strive to curb this menace, said ADGP (CID) Dr LR Bishnoi at an anti-drugs awareness meeting held at the DKD College here on Thursday.

In the programme organised under the aegis of Golaghat Police under the direct supervision of Golaghat Superintendent of Police Pushpraj Singh, the ADGP delivered his speech on the topic, �Drug abuse: A menace� through power point presentation.

Through his speech, he discussed the main aspects of drug abuse and its consequences in personal as well as social life. In the interactive style of presentation, the ADGP could attract the attention of the large gathering of students, teachers, police personnel, mediapersons etc.

He urged the gathering to cooperate with the police as well as civil administration to curb the menace.

Earlier, Golaghat SP Pushpraj Singh delivered the welcome address. He informed the audience that Golaghat Police had arrested 46 drug peddlers from various parts of the district. Similarly, around 200 drug addicts were sent to a de-addiction centre at Diphu in Karbi Anglong and Bengaluru for treatment.

The meeting was attended by DIG (TAP) Rana Bhuyan, PTC Principal Jitmol Doley, DKD College Principal Dr Ranjit Kumar Bordoloi and Brand Ambassador of Swachh Bharat Mission for North Eastern States (NAMASTE) and secretary of Aashray Sanjoy Kumar Hazarika as special invited guests.

In the programme, a street play on drug abuse was enacted to the delight of the audience. The programme was also attended by senior police officers like ASP Golaghat Surajit Singh Panesar and Partha Pratim Saikia, Commandant of 11th APBn Dergaon, SDPO Bokakhat along with other police officers of the district.

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by the general secretary of DKD College Students� Association Kaustav Bhattacharyya.
