DHEMAJI, Oct 10 - Dhemaji district administration recently conducted surprised checkings at various hotels, restaurants and other commercial establishments in Dhemaji town and found illegal use of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes.

The team of officials led by Dhemaji circle officer Geetali Duwarah conducted surprised checking in the hotels and restaurants and seized a total of seven domestic cylinders and some bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor kept concealed therein. The officials, who noticed unhygienic storage of sweets and other food items in the hotels and restaurants, strictly warned them to maintain hygienic condition.

Official sources said that report regarding the findings has been submitted to the authority. However, no person has been booked so far in charge of illegal activities. The officials also warned errant businessmen not to use domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes.

Sources also informed that the district administration has been conducting checking drives in the hotels and restaurants in order to prevent illegal anti-social activities time to time. The authority earlier booked and penalised some persons in such charges.

The team earlier conducted checking at two water packaging factories one at Dhemaji town and another at Hatigarh and found some irregularities in the registration process. The two factories were finally sealed by the officials.

The team also conducted checking in the shops and other business establishments in the township and seized some weights and measures instruments for not renewing their licences in time.

The team of officials comprised Food Safety Officer, Lakhimpur Karuna Doley, Food & Civil Supply Inspector Annaram Pegu, sub-inspector Kabindra Medok, veterinary officer Dr Chatrapati Goyari and officials from fishery, excise and legal metrology departments.

Earlier, Jonai sub-divisional administration in Dhemaji district last month conducted such drives against illegal use of domestic LPG cylinders, banned imported fishes and contaminated/expired food items from their storage. The officials later issued strict warning to the erring businessmen to avoid such malpractices.
