Drinking water scarcity grips many parts of Nagaland

By The Assam Tribune

KOHIMA, Mar 12 (PTI): With the dry spell continuing, acute drinking water scarcity has gripped the town with water selling for Rs 20 a bucket.

Reports of water shortage from other district towns of the hill State are pouring in with authorities regulating the supply so that at least all residential colonies get water on a rotational basis.

In Kohima, the situation has worsened due to damage of the main supply pipe at Jotsoma village near here on Monday after an uprooted tree fell on it following heavy winds, PHE Department officials said, adding repairs might take a few days.

The PHE Department has made arrangements to distribute drinking water by tankers and trucks to the people in coordination with the district administration, Kohima Municipal Council and other departments.
