Dree festival in Arunachal today

ITANAGAR, July 4 � Preparations are on in full swing for the celebration of Dree, the annual agriculture- based festival of Apatani community of Arunachal Pradesh. With the festivities knocking at the doors, the tribesmen and women are busy completing rehearsal for Pree and Daminda � traditional dance forms that are the inseparable part of Dree celebrations.

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Kanti Lal Bhuria would grace the Dree Festival at the Apatani Plateau, Ziro in Lower Subansiri district tomorrow as the chief guest.

A record number of 566 dancers, comprising of mostly schoolchildren and women members of local NGOs, will take part in this year�s dance festival, showcasing their unique traditional cultural heritage, informed an office bearer of Central Dree Festival Celebration Committee, Ziro, Michi N Shalla.

The other activities like decoration of Dree ground, erection of pandal, etc., are also nearing completion in both Central Dree ground, Old Ziro and Dree ground of Hong, Asia�s largest village at Hanoko. The preparations are also in final stages in many parts of the State and even outside the State where people of Apatani community reside.
