Dreaded killer nabbed in Tripura

AGARTALA, Dec 5 � After a long chase, Assam Police have finally caught a dreaded criminal, who is facing at least ten murder cases, from a border village of South Tripura�s Belonia subdivision.

Acting on tip-offs about presence of Salim Ahmed alias Dilu, a team of Assam Police recently landed in Belonia and sought help of Belonia police. Following the request, some police officers began special operation in search of Salim and came to know he is working in a construction site as labourer at Dakshin Bharat Chandra area.

On Sunday, he was picked up and taken to the police station. During interrogation, he revealed his real identity � Salim Ahmed of Badarpur and was engaged in construction after changing his name.

According to police, Salim had kidnapped Ahara Ahmed, a third-year student of Karimganj College from Badarpur area on November 19 and a murder case was registered against him with the Badarpur police station.

During investigation, police came to know Salim had engaged Rajani Talukdar to kidnap the college student, son of an affluent businessman and for this, the dreaded criminal had given him Rs 2 lakh. In the wake of the demand, the family of the kidnapped college student had given Rs 12 lakh as ransom but later his body was recovered from a jungle.

Salim was also mastermind in various killings, kidnappings and car lifting cases.
