Drama festival concludes in Imphal

IMPHAL, April 20 - The four-day 5th All Manipur Folk Drama Festival-2017 concluded here on Wednesday. The festival was organised by Manipur Dramatic Union under the financial assistance of Union Ministry of Culture.

Director IPR Meghachandra Kongbam stated that folk theatre has a big role to play in building a modern civilised society by disseminating messages of ethical values to the public through music, dance, dialogue, costume, etc. He opined that the State Government should try to revive the old traditions of Manipuri folklore and take initiative to develop folk theatre as an art form.

Expressing serious concern over poor state of folk theatre in the State, Sangeet Natak Academy awardee Yumnam Rajendra called for seminars, workshops and research in the area of folk drama. RK Sanajaoba Singh said that the main objective of organizsing the Festival is to save the dying folk dramas and to spread awareness about the rich legacy of folklore and folk drama.
