DIMAPUR, Feb 4 - The year-long celebration of 100th birth anniversary of Dr T Ao, began recently with Nagaland Governor PB Acharya unveiling the portrait of the first captain of Indian football team in London Olympics in 1948 and the first Naga Oympian, at Raj Bhavan in Kohima.
Speaking on the occasion, Acharya expressed his delight to host the programme to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Dr T Ao, the football icon from Nagaland.
Among his achievements were the best sportsperson trophy in inter high school tournament in Jorhat in 1937, individual champion of Cotton College for three consecutive years and champion in athletics of Calcutta University in 1946 and 1947.
His contributions to the society and country as a footballer and as a doctor are highly commendable, Acharya said.
The Governor informed that in honour of Ao�s contributions, Raj Bhavan has instituted awards in the field of sports, academics and extra-curricular activities in schools, colleges and universities.
