DIBRUGARH, Nov 3 - Distancing himself from the divisive forces, former Director General of Police of Assam Police and currently the president of Asam Sahitya Sabha (ASS) Dr Kuladhar Saikia today called for strengthening the bonds of the greater Assamese society for inclusive growth.
Speaking at the backdrop of a felicitation function of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dibrugarh Anchalik at Raibahadur Rameshwarlal Saharia Hall here, Dr Saikia while replying to a query from newsmen said that it is inappropriate for Asam Sahitya Sabha to react to comments of divisive forces or to politically-motivated statements of vested interest groups or individuals. By making such statements, if someone is seeking to extract mileage either for self or for his group or for ones own community, the involvement of Asam Sahitya Sabha does not arise. In my opinion, we must all involve ourselves collectively in strengthening and building the greater Assamese society for our growth and development, he said.
On the decreasing number of students in Assamese medium schools, Dr Saikia who is also a recipient of prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award said that several factors are behind the declining rate of enrolment in the Assamese medium schools of the State. One important requirement is that we will have to improve and beautify the infrastructure of the educational institutions. If we cannot upgrade our schools and colleges, we cannot attract students, he pointed out.
